ICC PROPOSES REVISION OF SAFETY POLICY

This article comments on the Interstate Commerce Commission's proposal that operating authority should only be denied to carriers issued a Department of Transportation safety rating of 'unsatisfactory.' ICC's specific proposals are discussed, as well as its claims about the DOT rating. It is reported that DOT intends to scrutinize the safety compliance of about 750 'unsatisfactory' carriers of passenger or placarded loads before the end of this year.
