TUNNELLING AGAINST ICE, SNOW AND GRANITE

This article describes the Finse rail tunnel in Norway, at the apex of a mountain range, which is being driven through massive granite. The tunnel driving, on three fronts, is being done at the rate of 250m/wk despite the inhospitable location.
