USING TUNNELS FOR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE: A SOLUTION TO STOCKHOLM'S TRAFFIC DILEMMA
Although Sweden has a long history of using the underground for infrastructure systems such as utilities, placing road systems underground is a relatively new idea. The author describes the proposed Stockholm highway ring, which has been under construction for more than 30 years but has not been completed because of environmental concerns. Designed by four major Swedish companies, the proposed "Project Osterleden" would complete the ring as a road tunnel tollway. (Author/TRRL)
