TRANSPORT PRIORITIES IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT
This paper is a by-product of an ESRC-financed interdisciplinary research project, the main purpose of which was to examine the extent to which reference to the concepts of equity, fairness and justice forms part of the transport policy-making process in the U.K. Part of the study was based on interviews with people with transport responsibilities in local authorities. As a preliminary to questions designed to obtain information about the role of equity-related concepts in local decision-making, interviewees were asked to state what they thought were four major transport issues in their particular authority. This paper is concerned with an analysis of the responses to that particular part of the interview.
