An analysis of the oil slick data associated with the "Torrey Canyon" episode of March-April 1967 and the episode of September 1970 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence showed suprisingly large values of vorticity and divergence. Thus, the individual slicks might be visualized as a set of rectilinear vortices whose movement can be calculated from hydrodynamic considerations. The mutual interaction among the slicks as well as the influence of a steering current in which the oil slicks might be embedded have also been studied. A numerical integration of the ordinary differential equations that result from this formulation have the trajectories of individual slicks. Figures, equations, and curves show contamination and calculations.
