POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF REOPENING AND EXPANDING THE SUEZ CANAL ON THE SHIPMENT COST OF CRUDE OIL

This paper examines the likely consequences for the economics of tanker operations of reopening the Canal. Specifically, the focus of this analysis is upon the cost of shipping crude oil from the Persian Gulf to ports in Europe and the United States in ships that transit the Canal at least in ballast.
