HOME-BUILT SCISSORS LIFT SPEEDS CEILING INSTALLATION

A home-made jumbo rig is described which is being used to speed placement of procelain enamel ceiling tiles at an unprecedented rate in four Interstate-70 tunnels in Colorado. The specification for installing 245,300 sq ft of tiles calls for a minimum of 40 linear feet per day on 31 ft-wide ceilings. Details of the equipment and the installation are described. A crew of five is installing 20 x 31-ft ceiling panels at more than twice the rate of similar projects.
