THE TECHNIQUE OF BUILDING HIGHWAY RETAINING WALLS

Modular block retaining walls reinforced with geogrids have gained acceptance and application in highway construction by state transportation agencies. Components of a typical modular block wall with geogrid reinforcemnt are described. In addition to aesthetic appeal, cost is a primary motivation for using such walls. Details of the construction and design of such walls are briefly summarized. However some operational and technical questions are raised. These questions relate to specifications, fills, geogrid modular block connection requirements, and durability.
