EVOLUTION IN THE NUMBER OF ROAD ACCIDENT VICTIMS SINCE THE APPLICATION OF THE REGULATION ON THE 90 KM/H SPEED LIMIT, DATED 1ST JULY, 1971

EVOLUTIE VAN HET AANTAL VERKEERSSLACHTOFFERS SEDERT DE INVOERING VAN DE SNELHEIDSBEPERKING TOT 90 KM/U OP 1 JULI 1971

A systematic analysis was made of the statistics showing the evolution in the number of road accidents from 1966 to 1972. A special study was conducted to see whether the 90 km/h speed limit had any effect on the number of personal injury accidents. A sharp reduction occurred during the second quarter of 1971, that is to say immediately after the application of the regulation. But this result was only A random result since from 1972 the figures have increased again. Tables show the distribution of the number of casualties, per quarter and per type of road. /TRRL/
