ROCKS TAKEN FOR LONG HAUL

Clarkson Construction Company is moving about 1 million cu yd of rock and earth to be used as fill for embankments for a 3-mile portion of the new, four-lane Cherokee Turnpike near Locust Grove, Oklahoma. More than half of the fill material is either earth or limestone from the roadbed cut. The remaining 400,000 cu yd will come from an adjacent borrow pit. This article discusses the equipment being used, the blasting of the limestone, and the excavation for 7000 ft of paved channels for drainage.
