TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT. RTS ENGLISH ISSUE NUMBER 6. TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, ENERGY AND POLLUTION

Transportation in France is almost totally dependant upon oil. The outcome of this dependance causes concern due to increasing mobility, which relies mainly upon modes consuming the most fuel. Different examples show the significant potential impact on fuel consumption of implementing modern techniques of traffic management. Subsequently, the Agence Francaise pour la Maitrise de l'Energie (AFME) has developed its activity in this area, supporting research into advanced routing systems and traffic control, as well as assessing the performance of these systems.
