TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT. RTS ENGLISH ISSUE NUMBER 6. ROUTE GUIDANCE: THE RIGHT DIRECTION...OR A TECHNICAL BYWAY?

This paper presents some important aspects concerning current developments of in-vehicle dynamic route guidance systems. The first part gives some basic principles of these systems and presents an overview of projects and tests in progress in Europe. the second part deals with questions related to the integration of route guidance and traffic control: travel times, forecasting, route calculation, data processing. The third part concerns other related questions which are important in the perspective of the distribution of these systems: road safety, environment, drivers' reactions, institutional aspects.
