The elasto-plastic Cam-clay model was developed by the Cambridge group as a simple model to predict the behavior of soils with minimum input of easily measurable parameters. This paper examines the possibility of revisibng the original Cam-clay model, retaining the associated flow rule. This appears possible by incorporating some additional stresses, which are mobilized internally without causing any externally observable strains. The credence of the revision to be proposed is that it can simultaneously answer for the deficiency of the original model, both for normally and over consolidated states, i.e. it can answer for the overprediction of strains for normally consolidated states and can reflect the appreciable plastic soils even within the yield surface.
