TRANSFER VEHICLE HELPS PREVENT HMAC SEGREGATION

It is described how a material transfer vehicle (MTV) helped a district of Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation complete a rehabilitation project. The MTV is a large, rubber-tired, self-propelled machine developed to aid in paving operations. The key feature of the MTV is its insulated, 30-ton capacity surge bin with two triple-pitch augers in the bottom that remix the HMAC (hot mix asphalt concrete) and deliver it, unsegregated, to the paver hopper. This helped reduce material segregation in a rehabilitation project (sections had experienced rutting) on I-10 in District 20.
