ROUNDABOUTS. A TYPE OF INTERSECTION UNDERVALUED IN SPAIN
LAS GLORIETAS. UN TIPO DE INTERSECCION SUBVALORADA EN ESPANA
Up to recent years the more frequent types of roundabout system used on urban and suburban intersections in Spain have been the split type (usually by the road having greatest priority); the signalized system; and those giving priority to one of the confluent roads. The least used system has been that which gives priority to traffic already on the ring. This article reviews the design and performance of this last system in several countries (including Britain, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, North America) with special reference to work carried out by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory and presents two formulae (English and French) for calculating capacities and geometric design.
