MEDICAL ASPECTS OF FITNESS TO DRIVE. A GUIDE FOR MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS

These guidelines have been produced to assist doctors in New Zealand: (a) in the advice they offer patients with cardiovascular diseases concerning fitness to drive motor vehicles; and (b) in the completion of Ministry of Transport medical certificates required for certain categories of drivers licences. Chapters provide information on: heart disease; diabetes epilepsy; disorders of the nervous system; mental disorders; visual standards for driving licences; hearing; locomotor disabilities; medication and drugs; ageing; fatigue; and medical standards for traffic officers. Appendices provide information on: medical reports and driving licence revocation procedures; certificates and procedures; medical examinations; safety helmet exemptions; New Zealand driver assessment services; and a list of the addresses of Alcohol and Drug Assessment Centres in New Zealand.
