This study revealed that more attention should be paid to the planning and execution of compaction work. The ratio acquired by the plate loading test does not reveal unambigously the level of compaction. If sufficient samples (more than 6) are taken, the troxler gauge can be used to measure the dry compaction of the stratum. Extensively wet or dry compaction should be avoided, and stratification may be caused by erroneous design of the site. The following mistakes were found in the execution of compaction in practice: inadequate thickness of strata, heterogeneous material, insufficient carrying capacity and skill of quality control personnel.
