Porous asphalt concrete is increasingly used as a wearing course material for the road network by national, provincial and municipal authorities. This is especially due to the advantages with respect to traffic safety and traffic noise that this material offers. This publication discusses new research results and experiences gained with porous asphalt concrete during the last few years. The best ways of using porous asphalt concrete are discussed. The following aspects are considered: specific properties, the relation between mix composition and individual properties and the properties in combination with each other, production and processing, application in the built-up area and on bridge decks, winter behaviour, and maintenance.
