POWER SYSTEM DISTURBANCES DUE TO INDUCTION MOTOR RESWITCHING TRANSIENTS

The correct functioning of the electrical equipment on a ship will be influenced to a varying extent by both transient and steady state variations in the quality of the electrical supplies. Continuity of supply and quality are important criteria in the design of marine electrical systems which are small by nature, having concentrated loads, small cable runs and operate generators near to full capacity. The effects of induction motor reswitching transients are considered. Reswitching tests were conducted on a range of induction motors and the results are reported. Pertinent recommendations are offered.
