STAGING HOV ON NEW TRANSPORTATION CORRIDORS. IN: TRANSPORTATION PLANNING METHODS APPLICATIONS. PROCEEDINGS, THIRD NATIONAL CONFERENCE, DALLAS, TEXAS, APRIL 22-26, 1991

Providing transportation services in an urban environment is regarded as a significant issue nationally. Many regions have adopted goals recognizing the importance of mobility. Some of the goals are: reduction of vehicle miles of travel; energy conservation; and air pollution reduction. High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) facilities form a major component of this effort. As an ongoing effort to develop rational methodologies for evaluating the need for HOV facilities, a set of guidelines have been developed for assessing the viability of HOV alternatives. These guidelines are discussed in the paper.
