ECONOMICS 101 FOR GENERAL AVIATION MANUFACTURERS

This report discusses the following topics: the effect of current product liability laws upon the cost structure of general aviation manufacturers and prices of new aircraft; the difference between general aviation aircraft and other manufactured durable goods; demand conditions for general aviation aircraft which support a coordinated marketing strategy involving manufacturers, charter and fixed-base operators, and retailers and fuel refiners; long-term implications for the general aviation industry if manufacturers' product liability is not constrained; development of general answers outlining the consequences for the indsutry if changes do not occur using a market economy framework.
