NECESSITY FOR AND EXAMPLE OF A SIMPLE METHOD OF DETERMINING LUMINANCE IN STREET LIGHTING

NOTWENDIGKEIT UND BEISPIEL EINES EINFACHEN VERFAHRENS ZUR LEUCHTDICHTEERMITTLUNG IN DER STRASSENBELEUCHTUNG

A description is given of a method which enables desired luminance values and all interim values to be calculated from a diagram, without any further calculations being needed. This means basic simplifications for most practical operations. Slight standard deviations are inconsiderable, because generally other falsifying influences are much greater. More details are given of these falsifying influences: the effect of weather, surface alterations of the road, dirty windscreens, effects of shadows caused by vehicles, lights other than those on the road and car headlamps. The article includes diagrams for longitudinal and transverse uniformity of luminance for lighting column lanterns at an angle of 15 degrees, and also the light distribution curve and the lantern selected for the example. /TRRL/
