POLARIZED LIGHT HEADLAMPS FOR VEHICLES

In polarized vehicle headlamps in which polarization takes place by means of dichroic absorbing plastic foils, these foils are subjected to marked thermal stress, so that the degree of polarization decreases after a fairly long operational period. Moeover the efficiency of these systems is low. If polarization takes place without loss by reflection from layered polarizing equipment, then the degree of polarization is inadequate because of too great a divergence of the rays leaving the reflector. By combining both methods of polarization one can obtain a polarized light headlamp which has adequate efficiency, which has little thermal stress imposed in the polarization foils, and which has the required degree of polarization.
