CAR POOLING LOCATIONS, A GROWING DEVELOPMENT

CARPOOLPUNTEN, EEN GROEIENDE ONTWIKKELING

The main purpose of the report is to investigate whether or not car pooling has any influence on the prevention of traffic congestion, on the use of energy and on the environment. It also studies how the car pooling locations and their use have developed, in particular in the western part of Holland. An inventroy of car pooling locations is made and an interview is held under the persons using car pooling. The results are compared with those from 1983. There are now 95 car pooling locations constructed, which is 45 more than in 1983. An overview is given of the number of journeys saved in the Randstad, the high populated area in the western part of Holland. The wishes of the users are also studied. Conclusions are drawn and recommendations are presented. (TRRL)
