EXTENSION OF PROHIBITION POWERS AND OTHER VEHICLE-RELATED PROPOSALS

Following the publication of the Government's proposals to reform road traffic law, in the White Paper "The road user and the law" (Cmd 576) (see IRRD 818919), this paper invites comments on the issues raised. The proposals concern the extension of police powers to prohibit unfit goods vehicles,large passenger vehicles, cars, motorcycles and other motor vehicles posing a threat to public safety. Other proposals refer to the weighing and prohibition of overloaded coaches, sale of unroadworthy vehicles, the MOT scheme, scope of vehicles inspections, PSV and HGV inspection procedures. (TRRL)
