STRESS CORROSION TESTING. PART 7: METHOD FOR SLOW STRAIN RATE TESTING

This Part of BS 6980 has been prepared under the direction of the Iron and Steel and Non-ferrous Metals Standards Policy Committees. It is identical with ISO 7539-7 and also published in eight parts. This Part covers procedures for conduction slow strain tests for investigating susceptibility of a metal to stress corrosion cracking, including hydrogen-induced failure. Slow strain tests are adaptable for testing a wide variety of product forms, including plate, rod, wire, sheet and tubes, as well as composites of these and parts joined by welding. Notched or pre-cracked specimens may be used as well as initially plain specimens. For the abstracts of the other parts see IRRD nos 818949 and 833170-833174. (TRRL)
