GUIDELINES FOR CONTROLLING SNOWDRIFTING ON CANADIAN HIGHWAYS. FINAL REPORT
This report is intended to provide guidelines for highway maintenance crews to minimize the quantity of drifting snow approaching a highway using devices such as snowfences, landscaping or adjacent terrain modification. The background and field study tests used to prepare these guidelines are presented in "Research study of highway snowdrifting" (IRRD 807469). A seven step approach is presented to implement snow drifting preventative measures: 1) Determination of the type of problem, 2) Collection of meterological data, 3) Determination of critical surrounding terrain conditions, 4) Identification of the cause of the problem, 5) Development of solution details, 6) Installation methods, and 7) Monitoring of selected solution.
