The presentation describes how SHRP is revelutionizing the method by which Minnesota Department of Transportation will deal with traffic, and decision making for transportation systems based on volume, classification and weight. SHRP is effecting changes in the area of specifications for equipment. MnDOT will use continuously operating weigh-in-motion systems to collect data at 23 SHRP sites. The purchasing of traffic monitoring equipment is discussed. SHRP has provided the impetus to develop a format to collect data on individual vehicles. The issue of automatic recalibration for WIM is disucussed, as well as the variability of machines which collect traffic data.
