ARKANSAS EXPERIENCE IMPLEMENTING PROCEDURES AND EQUIPMENT FOR SHRP DATA COLLECTION AT GPS AND REGIONAL WIM SITES. STRATEGIC HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROGRAM PRODUCTS. PROCEEDINGS OF A SPECIALTY CONFERENCE SPONSORED BY THE HIGHWAY DIVISION OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS AND THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION. DENVER MARRIOTT CITY CENTER HOTEL, DENVER, COLORADO, APRIL 8-10, 1991

The data collection efforts of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department are based on the use of field personnel to collect data, including the retrieval of data from permanent recorder locations. Weigh-in-motion (WIM) data collections are made with capacitance pads operated from a manned vehicle at 90 sites collected over a 3-year cycle. Automatic weight and classification (AWACS) technology is essential for the implementation of SHRP, piezoelectric axle sensors and AWACS recorders have been chosen as the most cost effective solution to the SHRP data collection needs. Telemetry is being investigated as a means of retrieving data from the SHRP sites. The details of the SHRP Program in Arkansas are discsussed.
