VEDYAC - A POWERFUL AID IN CRASH RESEARCH . A CENTURY OF AUTOMOBILES: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF AUTOMOTIVE SAFETY

The name vedyac is an acronym for vehicle dynamics and crash. It pertains to a computer program capable of simulating a large variety of vehicles, vehicle manoevres and crash conditions in equally variable surroundings.the main features of this model include: (1) simultaneous simulation of the movements and interactions of a large number of independantly moving systems (vehicles or otherwise), (2) flexibility in the modelling of deformable structures: there is a choice between simple and fast modelling ("pneumatic cylinders") and detailed and slower modelling ("discrete elements"), (3) simplified manipulation of input data, and (4) extensive three dimensional graphic postprocessor. These main features will be adstructed and some results of recent work are shown. (a) an opposing view is presented by e. Pullwitt. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 830653.
