THE USE OF CALCIUM NITRITE AS A CORROSION INHIBITING ADMIXTURE TO STEEL REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE. CORROSION OF REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON "CORROSION OF REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION", BELFRY HOTEL, WISHAW, WARWICKSHIRE, MAY 21-24, 1990
A short review is made of the role of nitrite base corrosion inhibiting admixtures in general and in particular on calcium nitrite. A summary of 10 years laboratory work and field experience on the corrosion inhibiting effect of calcium nitrite on steel reinforcement of concrete is presented. It is shown how these results could be applied in the field to provide long term corrosion resistance when used in correct dosages with proper concrete mix designs.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 831449.
