IMPLEMENTATION OF BRIDGE MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE SYSTEMS (BMMS) IN EUROPE AND THE FAR EAST. BRIDGE MANAGEMENT. INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, ASSESSMENT AND REPAIR. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BRIDGE MANAGEMENT, UNIVERSITY OF SURREY, GUILDFORD, MARCH 28-30, 1990

This paper describes the DANBRO bridge management and maintenance system (BMMS) and the aspects of implementing the BMMS by bridge authorities. The system provides a rational and systematic approach to organising and carrying out activities related to bridge management. It consists of a database system, comprising three modules: (1) the inventory module; (2) the inspection and beaming capacity module; (3) the ranking and budgeting module. Manuals for these modules are also available. Two case studies are utilized to illustrate BMMS, the Danish State Railways and the Department of Highways in Thailand. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 830533.
