ESTIMATION OF IMPAIRED HEALTH AND WORKING CAPACITY IN PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS (BUS AND GOODS VEHICLE DRIVERS) BASED ON RATES OF EMPLOYMENT, INVALIDITY AND OLD-AGE RETIREMENT IN A TEN-YEAR PERIOD. PROCEEDINGS - 11TH WORLD CONGRESS OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR ACCIDENT AND TRAFFIC MEDICINE, DUBROVNIK, 24-28 MAY 1988

This paper reviews the employee's files of several transport firms over a ten-year period (1976-1985). Statistical analysis was carried out using parametric and non-parametric methods. The following parameters were analyzed: the incidence and dynamics of employment of professional drivers; disablement rate; the old-age retirement rate; the relationship between disablement and the old-age retirement in professional drivers employed in the public sector of the freight transport compared with bus drivers working in urban passenger transport, intercity transport, regional traffic and the combination of urban-interurban traffic and interurban-regional traffic. The established statistically significant difference between the incidence of disablement compared with the incidence of the old-age retirement in the studied groups of professional drivers proves that the exposure to adverse agents at the place of work results in serious health impairment as well as in reduced working capacity in these drivers. A statistically significant proportion of bus drivers and lorry drivers do not complete their length of service required for the old-age retirement.
