SISTEM ZASTITNIH MJERA KOD IZRADE TUNELA KARAVANKE JUG OBZIROM NA UPOTREBU DIZELSKE MEHANIZACIJE U PRISUSTVU ESKALACIJA METANA

The paper deals with technical and protective measures used during construction of the South karavanke tunnel so as to enable safe excavation by diesel engines in the surroundings where sporadic presence of methane is expected. According to the applied safety measures, if the presence of methane is below 0.5%, the surroundings are considered safe. If the concentration of methane exceeds 0.5% all works must be stopped. Special attention is drawn to an early detection of methane and the rapid reaction of the whole working team so as to prevent its further penetration or explosion. The paper describes methods for methane detection as well as the tunnel repair plans in case of higher concentration of methane. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 829277.
