PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT . 28TH ARRB REGIONAL SYMPOSIUM, TOOWOOMBA, QUEENSLAND. PROGRAM AND PAPERS

This paper briefly describes ARRB's research into Pavement Management Systems (PMS) for Local Government. Such research is being fully documented in two reports: a State of the Art report, which is now available for purchase, and a Guidelines report now under preparation. A very brief summary of each report is provided. The paper also outlines the possible benefits to local government of having a coordinated series of PMS implemented throughout Australia. Likely benefits should come in the form of improved management procedures and more comprehensive and better coordinated national road condition surveys and road infrastructure studies. Benefits should be expected to bring many millions of dollars of cost savings to local government annually (A). For the covering record of the Symposium, see IRRD number 823018.
