REITERATION METHODS FOR THE PROGNOSIS OF TRAFFIC DISTRIBUTION ON ROAD NETWORKS

As a rule a direct calculation of the traffic distribution to be expected proves impossible. However, a few methods have been developed which are based on successive approximation by means of repetition (reiteration) . With the help of a simple example of calculation four of these methods are dealt with in a didactic way: the method of successive averages, the method developed by Frater, the method applied in the Detroit metropolitan area traffic study and the Furness method. A comparison of the various results yields sufficient indications for a few interim conclusions. /TRRL/
