The present paper deals with the effectiveness of alkyl alkoxy silane based barrier penetrants on improvements in the barrier properties of concrete. Naturally dried concrete is treated with various silane based barrier penetrants, and the treated concretes are tested for penetration into the concrete, pore size distribution, waterproofness, chloride ion penetration, chemical resistance, carbonation and weatherability. It is concluded from the test results that the penetration of the silane based barrier penetrants into the dried concrete is most effective in improving its waterproofness and resistance to chloride ion penetration and does not improve its carbonation resistance.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 828897.
