SURVEYS OF BEDROCK AS A BASIS FOR THE ESTIMATION OF THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ROCK

BORRNINGS- OCH BORRHAALSUNDERSOEKNINGAR SOM UNDERLAG FOER BERGMEKANISKA BEDOEMNINGAR

A research project is briefly described. The aim of the project was to compare the utility and accuracy of five methods of bedrock investigation. The methods compared were: core drilling, integral sampling, hammer drilling, bore hole television scanning and water pressure tests. An evaluation table was prepared to describe the capabilities of the various methods to produce reliable information. Rock characteristics, fissuring, weakness zones, stress conditions and permeability are the main parameters investigated. Except for the actual stress conditions the investigation methods proved to provide fairly detailed information if two or more methods were combined. The result is meant to be a guide for the planning of efficient site investigations for underground installations. /TRRL/
