SOME THOUGHTS ON QUALITY MANAGEMENT WITH REFERENCE TO SABS 0157: PART II-1987 . 5TH CONFERENCE ON ASPHALT PAVEMENTS FOR SOUTHERN AFRICA (CAPSA 89). PROCEEDINGS HELD IN SWAZILAND, 5-9 JUNE, 1989

The South African Standard SABS 0157: Part II-1987 is a generic code of practice for Quality Systems. By understanding the concepts and philosophy involved then its application to a specific industry, e.g. asphalt, is relatively simple. This paper attempts to differentiate between a Marketing Concept of Quality which can be quite nebulous, and a Manufacturing Concept where the definition must be specific in order that control can be achieved. The second part of the paper discusses the application of Quality Management Systems under the SABS Mark & Listing Schemes.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 828827.
