STATISTICAL DESIGN METHOD FOR ANTI-SCOUR BLOCK WORK AROUND BRIDGE PIERS

The stability of concrete block work to protect bridge piers from scouring by flood water is discussed in a way of multivariate analysis. By using the data of the secure blocks and blocks that have been dislodged at flood time, the discriminant function for stability, using six variables, is derived. The relation between scoured depth around piers, and the size of block work, as well as ideal block work size are discussed. Lastly, a design method about the concrete block work is proposed, related to its weight and size.
