This paper describes the instrumentation scheme of a building that was part of the USGS (United States Geological Survey) project on strong motion instrumentation of structures. It describes and analyzes the strong-motion response records obtained from the building during the October 1987 Whittier-Narrows earthquake. The set of records is unique in that it is one of the few sets of strong motion records exhibiting significant torsional response. The paper discusses the significant findings of the analyses performed.
