SEISMIC RELIABILITY ANALYSIS OF ELEVATED LIQUID-STORAGE VESSELS

A pseudodynamic seismic reliability analysis procedure for elevated liquid storage vessels is described. The procedure can be used to analyze elevated liquid storage vessels with various types of support structures and vessel shapes. The influence of sloshing liquid and the large uncertainy of the liquid-vessel system mass are investigated. The study results show that the uncertainty of the system mass and the resulting changes in the spectral characteristics have a signigicant effect on the annual failure probabilities. The computation required for the seismic reliability analysis developed here can be performed without undue complexity.
