WHEN SHOULD YOU SPECIFIY POLYMER CONCRETE?

This article describes the circumstances in which polymer concrete should and can be used for repairing or protecting pavements and other surfaces. Acrylic concrete mixes can be custom-designed to provide properties with lower or higher values within a certain range. Test results have shown that the polymer concretes that work best are the high-elongation, high-ductility, low-modulus polyesters and a couple of epoxies. The articles also covers the following aspects of polymer concrete use: mixing and application; safety precautions to take when using methyl methacrylate (MMA); using high molecular-weight methacrylate (HMWM) for crack sealing; and reasons for failure of acrylic concretes.
