COMPETITION IN THE U.S. AIRLINE INDUSTRY

This article describes how concepts of competition have become embodied in U.S. commercial aviation policy. It focuses on the levels and intensity of U.S. passenger airline service competition as revealed by market share analysis over the last two decades. Particular attention is directed to the degree of market concentration before and after deregulation.
