NUMERICAL STUDY ON CRACK DILATANCY. I: MODELS AND STABILITY ANALYSIS

This is the first of a 2-part paper. In this paper, five different aggregate interlock models in an interface element are discussed, and the interface element is used to simulate discrete cracking. Attention is focused on issues such as formulation of the nonsymmertrical tangential stiffness relation and the stability of the models including eigenvalue analyses. Comments are also made on the behavior of interface elements.
