This article discusses electrochemical metalizing (EM) which is a process that is applied to selective areas of worn, damaged, corroded or mismachined industrial components with no heat distortion and without immersion into a plating bath. In the railroad industry this process has received attention as a restoration tool for worn and damaged axle bearing journals. The article provides a background history of EM's use, gives examples of the cost-effectiveness of using EM, and explains the actual process as well as additional applications.
