ELASTO-PLASTIC LATERAL STABILITY OF TRUSS BRIDGES

A finite element method for analyzing the elasto-plastic lateral stability of truss bridges is presented in this paper based on the practical theory of bending and torsion of trusses. After analysing the elastic and inelastic stability of truss bridges, a simple practical method for the inelastic stability analysis is proposed. In order to make sure of the reliability of the proposed method, the results obtained have been checked against those obtained from the finite element method of space bar system. It shows that the accuracy of the proposed method is quite satisfactory.
