COUNCIL SAVES 30000 ON BOLLARD COSTS

Details are given of 'Flexibol' bollards which are manufactured from an EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) material so that they are flexible and bounce back after being knocked down by a vehicle. Provided the bollard is fixed according to the instructions to a strong base, the manufacturers, Flexible Directional Indicators (FDI), guarantee it against knockdown for 12 months. The 'Flexibol' bollard will replace most other makes and a conversion kit permits it to readily fit onto most bases. Over 100 local councils now use them and the company is developing other flexible signs. It is also claimed that they have a high degree of resistance to vandalism. The 'Flexibol' is said to bounce back to shape even if a vehicle drives over it. The problem of hanging lights being damaged has also been overcome by using an FDI conversion unit which replaces the hanging light with an uplighter. The conversion is a compact low level lighting system which takes 2 11W neon tubes. When fitted it is possible to push the bollard almost flat to the ground without affecting the lighting arrangement. The latest improvement in design is a photo cell sensor which switches off power to the unit during day light hours.
