The Select Committee on European legislation appointed on June 28 1989, a sub-committee to consider six European Community (EC) documents on road safety. These documents were: 4303/89 a Commission Communication on road safety; 9228/88, a draft Directive on seat belts; 4252/89, a draft Directive on maximum permitted alcohol concentration for vehicle drivers; 4156/87, a Commission Communication on speed limits; 4305/89, a draft Directive on speed limits; and 8714/87 a draft Directive on tyre tread depths. This document presents the Minutes of Evidence taken before the sub-committee, from officials from the Department of Transport, and officials from the EC Directorate General VII.
