REGIONAL TRAVELLING IN THE FUTURE. CONDITIONS AND TENDENCIES

FRAMTIDA REGIONAL PERSONTRAFIK - FOERUTSAETTNINGAR OCH TENDENSER

The aim of the project was to identify the improvements necessary in the public transport system to preserve or increase their market share. The project consisted of three parts: analyses of trends in society, interviews and proposals for demonstration projects. The consequences of different trends in society were studied. Many tendencies within the economy, population, trade and industry, for instance, speak for increased use of cars. Analyses of conditions for competition, legal regulations and alternative costs were also carried out. The interviews were carried out with non-public travellers. Many people use their car for all journeys by force of habit, and many also have a poor knowledge about the public transport system. Improvements are also suggested. Based on these studies, four demonstration projects are proposed; they involve better conditions for family travelling, facilities for working during travelling, coordination of officially paid journeys and adapting timetables to specific purposes.
